Rick Santorum and Clowns in the military

Just kidding, this has nothing to do with the conservative politician...amongst other things. Nor will it highlight the use of clown folk in the Marines.

It's FOOTBALL TIME!

Alright...so the lockout is over and I'm taking a small break from my poems to bring you some thoughts on Timmy Touchdown vs. Neckbeard Orton

Ever since the end of last season, Broncos fans have been clamoring for Tebow to be our starting QB here in Denver. The reason? I don't really know. I mean, I was at the Texans game where he brought us back to win and my son will forever be a Tebow fan so long as he doesn't go David Carr on us. I love what he stands for in terms of work ethic, desire, passion, beliefs, etc. I am a fan of Tim Tebow the man. I'm just not sold on Tebow the Broncos QB.

People say the Orton gives us the best chance to win now and Tebow later. How does playing Tebow prepare us for the future? Based on what? Last year when he caught people off guard? Throwing for over 300 yards against the leagues worst pass defense? He can have all of the intangibles in the world and be the greatest guy, but that doesn't mean he needs to be an NFL QB. John Elway was a GREAT QB, but, by all accounts, a terrible father, husband, business man, and person. What has Timmy Touchdown done to warrant the starting job in Denver?

There are probably only 10 teams in the NFL who couldn't use Kyle Orton as their starter over the next 3-5 years. The Broncos are not one of those teams. People talk about how he couldn't get it done on third down or in the red zone. Personally, I put that on coaching primarily and him secondarily. He has flaws, no doubt about that, but why are we so quick to run him out of town? Since the moment he arrived, I have felt the need to defend the neck beard, but I shouldn't have to any more. He was, by and large, the ONLY reason our offense had moderate success last year. We had 0 running game and our O line was banged up. Our D stunk. The only redemptive thing that we had last year was Kyle Orton.

Let's face it, McD screwed up when he drafted Tebow in the first round. If he took him in the 4th round, none of us are having this conversation. We would hold onto Kyle for another few seasons and hope Tim develops. If he doesn't, nothings really lost. This season, we have a new coach, a new system, and we don't need someone who has never played the position for a long period of time trying to figure it out...unless we desire to be in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes next year.

I hope, I HOPE, I am eating my words at the end of the year. I hope that Timmy turns his INtangibles into something tangible (wins and more wins). I hope that change is what is needed for the Broncos to turn things around. I hope that when Orton does get traded that we turn into a playoff team...but as we've seen in our country, hope is not a strategy and change is not a direction.

Go Broncos!

  1. Dear Son,

As a season ticket holder, let me give you my view....

My understanding is Kyle Orton asked for a trade. A deal was made with the Miami Dolphins and Kyle killed the trade because he couldn't get a longterm contract finalized by Miami. The Broncos are stuck with this arrogant but average NFL quarterback who doesn't seem to care about his team or the fans that support it. This is the main reason I want to see Timmy or Brady Q.

Second, John Fox is a run first throw second football coach. He has been successful with average quarterbacks who can "manage" the game, i.e. Kyle Orton. Now, having said the above, if the Broncos are going to hand the ball off to a running back 30 to 40 times a game, how great of a quarterback is needed?

Third, the sports talk shows are always stating that a great football player is one that the opposing teams need to "scheme" their game plan. Which quarterback poses a bigger challenge to develop a game plan against his offense?

No football player has the pure talent to advance to the next level without solid coaching. Not Elway, nor Montana, or Young, or Moreno..... given what I hear about Tebow's work ethic, I hope he gets the coaching to be successful.

I am a BRONCO fan, not a Tebow fan (I'll bet he is a Bronco fan!) but I only wished Orton was a Bronco fan!

    Blessings,

    Dad

  2. Dad,
    I disagree.

KO will be fine this year. Timmy needs another year or 2 to be groomed. Keep going to the games.

Remember, this is a fan base that wanted Elway gone for Tommy Maddox because "Elway could never win the big one." One guy won two and is running this team, the other guy is selling insurance.

    Kindest regards,
    Your baby boy
